Education system has always been questioned in many countries by their citizens. Lack of facilities, lack of opportunities to study, and not getting practical and ready to implement education are one of the things they lack. People with low-quality education have a hard time adjusting with the high paced world. They are not able to get the best opportunities, forcing them to settle to the ground when they can fly much higher in the sky. While some questions the system, others find the solution.
Mr Kaushik Sharaf, the founder of Cymatic Edutech is one of those who prefer to come forward to provide the solution.
To capitalize on the opportunity lies in the growing online education market, Cymatic Eduteck aims towards providing quality online educations to every student. We talked about his journey, achievements, and challenges. Check out the full interview below.
How will you Introduce Yourself to the world?
I am an entrepreneur who believes in turning ideas into reality. Having grown in one of India’s educationally most backward states, Bihar has led me to lay the foundation of Cymatic Edutech Private Limited, which is focused on democratizing education by bridging the educational divide through digital means. I grew Cymatic from a mere startup to the top 5 startups in Bihar.
After graduating as an engineer from one of India’s premier engineering colleges, Birla Institute of Technology, he has served MNCs like UBER to NGOs like UDAAN to solve the several social issues like child malnutrition, rural development, and poverty alleviation. I am a visionary and relentless optimist who believes there is no failure, only feedback.
Tell your readers about your achievements till today (Be Honest)!!
We are the only start-up so far in the region who got recognized by govt of Bihar, Govt of Jharkhand, govt of West Bengal along with govt of India. We have been ranked among the top 5 startups from Bihar. CIO Review, Bangalore has listed Cymatic in ‘20 Most Promising EdTech Startups in India 2019.’ Also, Cymatic has been selected among the top 100 smart startups by IIM Calcutta across the country. Cymatic was award for being the Most Promising Start-up in the country with Indian Achievers Award at National Brand & Marketing Summit & Awards on 12th March 2020.
Tell us about your start-up!
We founded Cymatic in 2017 with an aim of tapping technology to improve the learning of the students through live interactive virtual classrooms and 24X7 doubt assistance facilities which provides not only quality education to students but also promotes interaction while they learn.
“What’s the most important thing you’re working on right now, and how are you making it happen?
We are building products that will provide a well-qualified personal tutor to each student of class 9th and 10th on an online platform with both way interaction facility and contents to fit each student’s needs. If someone wants to study at home leaving all their worries about travelling, large classroom chaos, boring lectures, personal shyness to ask questions in a classroom or maybe due to some security concerns, etc. they can use our platform to study.
We have noticed that due to deficiency in school education and increasing level of competition, parents are forced to enrol their children for private tutoring. Even some parents send their children away from themselves for study at this early stage due to lack of facility and quality of teachings, which take out a major chunk of the expense of parents and leave them in doubts about the security concerns of their children.
To personalize the learning process of a student, Cymatic has been using two-way audio, video, and digital whiteboard tools where, both teacher and student can see, hear, write and interact in real-time. These are not recorded videos/lectures, but the recordings of lectures are provided to students for the revision purpose.
What’s your take on your segmented/targeted Market?
According to a KPMG report, the Indian e-learning market size was USD247 million, comprising 1.6 million users in 2016. It is expected to witness an 8X growth to reach USD1.96 billion, and the 2016 user base is growing at 44 percent CAGR to 9.6 million users by 2021. India’s e-learning market is the second largest after the US, which is forecasted to grow by 15.64 percent and exceed $48 billion by 2020. In this whole market segment, the Primary and secondary supplemental education market is growing at the fastest rate, i.e. 60% CAGR.
Today every big coaching/educational institution is opting for live classes like Aakash, FitJee, Tutstu, Vedantu, Toppr, etc. Vedantu being in a similar domain, has also recently raised $11 million led by Omidyar Network.
What are the challenges you have faced and what are the current challenges? Mention the top three challenges for both.
Since Cymatic is targeting the K-12 segment, it is very difficult for the startup to convince and convert a student into a paying customer. But as the parents are the decision-makers of students, Convincing parents for online education is one of the major challenges we are going through.
Why have you started up? Be specific with your reasons!!
I have been a below-average student and always wondered if I could do better by spending more time with my teachers, I believe there are many Kaushik in India who need a nudge from the good mentor/teacher to help them out. That’s the reason I started up.
Where do you want to see yourself in the next five years?
I want to reach every student by then and provide them with quality education so that they study in a much better way. I see myself as the startup unicorn in the next five years.
Please share your learning for fellow Entrepreneurs?
It’s been some years since my entrepreneurial journey started and all I have learned till now is that keep going and keep hustling.
