India has about 135 unicorn startups in November 2026, according to Tracxn, which also counts eight new unicorns this year. Inc42 counts 133 companies that have ever crossed $1 billion. Bengaluru leads by a wide margin. This guide ranks the biggest unicorn startups in India by valuation, lists the 2026 newcomers, and names every active unicorn by sector.
How many unicorn startups are in India in 2026?
As of November 2026, Tracxn counts 135 unicorn startups in India. Inc42, which tracks every company that ever hit a $1 billion valuation, counts 133 as of August 2026. The gap comes from definitions: some trackers include companies that have since listed, been acquired, or slipped below $1 billion.
That last group is bigger than people assume. Of Inc42’s 133, sixteen have fallen below the $1 billion mark, 29 have gone public and five have been acquired. So more than one in five Indian unicorns now trades on a stock exchange, and a few famous names (BYJU’S, PharmEasy, Snapdeal, MobiKwik) no longer qualify on valuation.
The pace of new unicorns tells the story of the funding cycle better than any headline:
| Year | New Indian unicorns |
| 2021 | 45 |
| 2022 | 22 |
| 2023 | 2 |
| 2024 | 7 |
| 2025 | 6 |
| 2026 (so far) | 7 (Inc42) to 8 (Tracxn) |
Inc42 says 2026 is on track for roughly ten new unicorns, more than 2025 but far below the 2021 boom. Together, India’s unicorns have raised over $118.5 billion and carry a combined valuation above $396.6 billion.

Valuations below are the last-known figures from Inc42’s Indian Unicorn Tracker, updated August 2026. For listed companies the number moves every trading day, so treat it as a snapshot. Older listed internet companies such as Info Edge and MakeMyTrip appear in Inc42’s tracker but are left out of this ranking.

Which is the most valuable unicorn startup in India?
Flipkart tops the list at about $36 billion, but Walmart owns it. Among listed companies, Eternal (Zomato) is largest at about $30 billion. Among independent private startups, PhonePe leads at roughly $13 billion, a mark set before its IPO was put on hold.
Big valuations are not stable prices
Razorpay shows why. Its peak private valuation was $7.5 billion. Razorpay has now received Sebi’s approval for an IPO of roughly ₹5,000 to 6,000 crore at a valuation near $5 billion. That is a cut of about a third from the peak. PhonePe paused its own IPO in March 2026, citing geopolitical tension linked to the West Asia conflict and valuation concerns. Zepto filed an updated draft prospectus in June 2026 for an IPO of about ₹11,000 to 12,000 crore, though reports suggest the listing has slipped, with some saying early 2027.
A unicorn valuation is the price of the last private round. It is not a price anyone has to pay in public markets.
New unicorn startups in India in 2026
Seven companies joined the club by Inc42’s count, and Tracxn lists eight. Juspay was the first of the year, entering in January. Astrotalk is the latest per Tracxn, reaching unicorn status on August 12, 2026.
| Startup | Sector | HQ | Founded | Valuation |
| Juspay | Payments infrastructure | Bengaluru | 2012 | $1.2B |
| KreditBee | Consumer lending | Bengaluru | 2016 | $1.5B |
| Skyroot Aerospace | Spacetech | Hyderabad | 2018 | $1.1B |
| Sarvam AI | Artificial intelligence | Bengaluru | 2023 | $1.5B |
| Emergent | Artificial intelligence | Bengaluru | 2024 | $1.5B |
| Square Yards | Real estate tech | Delhi NCR | 2014 | $1.0B |
| Astrotalk | Consumer services | Delhi NCR | 2017 | $1.0B |
Other trackers add Neysa, an AI cloud company in Mumbai, which explains part of the count gap.
Two things stand out. First, AI and deep tech now supply the newcomers. Emergent became India’s third AI unicorn after Sarvam and Krutrim, and Skyroot became the country’s first spacetech unicorn. Krutrim, for what it’s worth, has moved away from sovereign AI toward AI cloud services. Second, the new unicorns are young. Sarvam was founded in 2023 and Emergent in 2024. Compare that with Juspay, which took 14 years.
For speed records, Mensa Brands needed only six months to reach a billion dollars, followed by GlobalBees at seven months.

Bengaluru has the most unicorn startups in India, with 55 per Inc42. Delhi NCR follows with 42 and Mumbai with 18. Pune has 8, Chennai 5 and Hyderabad 3. Tracxn’s own count puts Bengaluru slightly higher at 57.
Add the first two and you get 97 of 133, about 73% of all Indian unicorns. Add Mumbai and it passes 86%. Four of the seven 2026 entrants (Juspay, KreditBee, Emergent and Sarvam) are headquartered in Bengaluru, so the concentration is not easing.
Which startups could become unicorns next?
Inc42 tracks 156 soonicorns, startups valued between $200 million and under $1 billion, and 42 of them are valued at $500 million or more. Names on that list include Cashfree, Atlan, Pocket FM, Practo, Country Delight and Classplus. Given the 2026 pattern, AI infrastructure and deeptech companies are the likeliest to cross over first.
